    rachellebutler:

Check out my secondary blog! I started it as a place to keep all the inspiring photography, architecture, art, and design I find on tumblr. Also owls, because I love owls.

(My first tattoo, which was also the first tattoo my brother ever did on someone beside himself, is a little owl who I named Alfred. So now you know that about me.)

    Shameless plug once again!

  9. I miss teaching piano lessons

    • Me: “Let's work on the new piece I gave you last week. How did practicing it go at home? ”
    • Tiny Girl, approximately 5 years of age: “I love your jeans. ”
    • Me: “Oh, thank you! ”
    • Tiny Girl: “How did you get them? ”
    • Me: “I went to Macy's and picked them out. ”
    • Tiny Girl: “No, I mean HOW did you get them? ”
    • Me: “*confused and still wondering how practicing the new piece went at home* ”
    • Tiny Girl: “But how did you leave here? ”
    • Me: “Are you wondering how I left my piano room? Did you know I don't live here? I have a house that I drive to every night. ”
    • Tiny Girl: “What. ”
    • Me: “I don't sleep here, silly! I can go other places too. ”
    • Tiny Girl: “*bewildered* What? ”
    • Me: “Why don't we see how the new piece is doing? ”
    • Tiny Girl: “*deeply relieved to ignore the conundrum* Okay!”

This will be preaching to the choir for most of the leading tone’s followers…still, though, you might find it useful or thought-provoking.

"Today, our pre-curated, algorithm-generated listening options are endless, but our opportunities for musical collaboration, for make-it-yourself music, are almost nil."

The organization Sing for Hope is doing some wonderful things with unwanted pianos in NYC.
